What is sweet wine and how is it made

Fortified wines are wines that have been fortified with grape spirit to stop fermentation. This can result in drier or sweeter wines, depending on when the eau-de-vie was added. Fortified wines usually have a higher alcohol content than regular wines. Due to this enrichment with alcohol, these wines also have a longer shelf life. Many such wines can age for decades or more in a good wine cellar.
